Pistol Skills for the Public Safety Cyclist

Purpose: This 1-day class is designed to increase both the armed security professional and the police officer's pistol skills as it relates to their duties on mountain bike patrol. Attendees will explore deadly force encounters involving police cyclists and review issues such as weapon retention and other officer safety concerns. Intensive live fire skill-building drills are designed to improve the officer's ability to work on and around the bicycle, dismount quickly, engage targets on the move, integrate their weapon systems and more. This course is designed and delivered by the author of IPMBA's "The Complete Guide to Public Safety Cycling" 2nd Ed., firearms chapter.


  • Quality mountain bike with a bike rack, kickstand, pedal retention devices
  • ANSI, Snell or CPSC approved bicycle helmet
  • Shatter resistant eye protection
  • Hydration system
  • Rain and/or cold weather gear is highly recommended
  • Basic bike repair tools
  • 300 rounds of pistol ammunition
  • Body armor
  • Full duty gear.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: This course is physically demanding, a thorough medical exam is highly recommended.
