The purpose of this course is to better acquaint the shotgun operator with their equipment and to provide the operator with training techniques that will enhance their understanding, confidence and performance with the shotgun in order to defend themselves and their loved ones. This is a beginner to intermediate course. Co-ed classes upon request.

  • Nomenclature
  • Compare and contrast equipment
  • Ergonomic aides and equipment considerations
  • Slinging and carrying options
  • Sights and lights
  • Manipulation and familiarization
  • Administratively loading, unloading the shotgun
  • Patterning and understanding loads
  • Fundamentals of marksmanship and shooting
  • Shooting platform “Core-a-bility”-recoil management
  • Tactical loading, reloading and unloading

Participant Requirements:

  • Demonstrate attentiveness and safe gun handling skills
  • Shotgun-auto loader or pump action in good working condition (subject to inspection)
  • 50 rounds of target load, 25-00 Buck and 5 slugs
  • Loading pouch, side saddle or pockets
  • Wrap around eye protection
  • Hard ear protection only (supplemental foam ear pro is acceptable)
  • Hydration source and simple carbohydrate are highly recommended
  • Valid concealed weapons permit
  • Brimmed hat, wrap-around eye protection, ear protection
  • ***A water source and simple carbohydrate is highly recommended
