Holster Work #101-Workshop (4-hours)

In order to draw from a holster on most ranges one must be “holster qualified.” This workshop is for the beginner and intermediate shooter/concealed pistol carrier who is interested in being holster qualified or becoming more confident and competent in drawing from a holster. Learn and practice a variety of carry techniques, practice safe accessing and drawing, firing and recovering to the holster. Classroom will be followed by detail oriented range work. Co-ed classes upon request.

Focal Areas:

  • Safety rules of transitioning from the bench/bag to the holster that meet with every range’s safety protocols, i.e. when to holster, when to unholster, safe direction
  • Tactics for carrying a firearm outside the home
  • Clothing options for work, play and home
  • Explore various holsters to include; holsters with and without retention, inside and outside of the waistband, on and off-body carry options
  • Proper elements of accessing the firearm and acquiring a master grip
  • Elements of the draw, smooth presentation to the target using both one and two handed firing techniques and re-holstering
  • Carrying and accessing additional ammunition and reloading efficiently and effectively

Participant Requirements:

  • Demonstrate attentiveness, safe gun handling skills and obey range safety rules at all times
  • Handgun .380-.45 ACP
  • Holster must be in good condition and proper fit for the handgun used, rigid and stable allowing the firearm to be holstered with one hand (subject to inspection.)
  • Inside or outside the waistband holster
  • 50 rounds of ammunition
  • Spare magazine and pouch(es)
  • Closed toe shoes, wrap around eye and ear protection, brimmed hat
