Pistol Skills for the Public Safety Cyclist (1-Day)

This 1-day class is designed to increase both the armed security professional and the police officer’s pistol skills as it relates to their duties on mountain bike patrol. Participants will review deadly force encounters involving police cyclists and explore issues such as weapon retention and other officer safety concerns. Intensive live fire skill-building drills are designed to improve the officer’s ability to work on and around the bicycle, dismount quickly, engage targets on the move, integrate their weapon systems and more. This course is designed and delivered by the author of IPMBA’s “The Complete Guide to Public Safety Cycling’ 2nd Ed., firearms chapter.

Learning Goals:

  • Evaluate challenging live fire training exercises relative to various work environments absent the use of a shoulder mounted weapon
  • Improve officer’s/end-users handgun skills with a challenging and safe training environment that allows them to explore their current abilities and to provide opportunities to improve performance
  • Explore working on and around the mountain bike in live fire training
  • Develop on-going training exercises for their own agency for annual training
