This course is designed for non-law enforcement personnel who patrol a wide array of environments via mountain bike. This course addresses the specific needs of  emergency medical first responders, security, and code enforcement officers. It produces confident, competent, and effective personnel who will operate the duty bicycle in a safe manner and reduce organizational liability while increasing community engagement.

This course is physically demanding. Ample riding time and a thorough medical exam is highly recommended (Par-Q). Passing a written and on-bike practical exam are required.

• Scene management and safety
• Patrol procedures, tactics, and officer safety techniques
• Basic bicycle maintenance
• Night operations
• *Firearms skills specific to police and armed security cyclists when applicable

Participant Requirements:

• Quality mountain bike (no hybrid or road bikes allowed) with a rear mounted bike rack, kickstand
• Headlight and taillight
• ANSI, Snell or CPSC approved bicycle helmet
• Shatter resistant eye protection for both day and night rides
• Water bottle or hydration system
• Padded cycling shorts rain and/or cold weather gear is recommended
• Basic bike repair tools, i.e., tire irons, spare tubes, tire patch kit, frame pump or air source, Phillips/flat head screwdrivers, and Allen wrenches

• Par-Q+ Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire forms completed

• **200 rounds of ammo, duty gear and body armor for range day if live fire will be included for armed security personnel.

Course hours may consist of extended hours depending on host agency format.
