Purpose: This class is designed to improve the female officer’s overall rifle handling and shooting performance. Through intensive work the rifle operator will increase her ability to deliver her patrol rifle efficiently and effectively particularly in the following areas:
- Marksmanship skills
- Manipulation for smaller statured officers
- Presentation and shooting with speed and accuracy
- Shooting with movement as an individual and with a partner
- Relative shooting positions with and without using cover
Requirements:
- Patrol style rifle with sling, minimum of three magazines
- 400 rounds of rifle ammunition
- Body armor
- High power binoculars or spotting scope
- Brimmed hat, ear protection, and wrap around shatter resistant eye protection
- Proper dress for weather conditions
- Quality knee and elbow pads

Lou Ann worked in uniform patrol division, training, Tactical Support Unit, and undercover operations to include an assignment with the DEA. She holds an MA in performance technology from the University of Michigan. She is a certified firearms and defensive tactics instructor in a variety of disciplines. She is a Team One Network instructor and Master Pistol Instructor through H&K. Over the last 32 years Lou Ann has instructed internationally in the areas of instructor development, training for specialty units and female police officers, (trained over 7,000 in pistol alone) and professional development including the Kuwaiti Female Special Forces and Ford Motor Company E.P. Teams. Lou Ann also serves on the Board of Directors for IALEFI and ILEETA advisory board member and was named ILEETA’s Legacy Trainer at the 2025 conference. Sgt. Tamara McCormack (Ret.) retired from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) after 20 years of service. Tammy obtained instructor certifications through Physical Methods of Arrest, Advanced Officer Safety Techniques, Less Lethal Shotgun, Active Shooter, and Intermediate Accident Investigation. Tammy instructed in the Physical Training Unit CHP academy leading cadet exercise, monitoring and teaching cadet nutrition, teaching and certifying cadets in physical methods of arrest, DT and civil disturbance. Tammy is a POST certified firearms and defensive tactics instructor, Chemical Agents (OC, CS, CN), Non-Lethal Training Ammunition (NLTA)/Simunitions, and a Use of Force expert for CHP. Master Taser Instructor, and Krav Maga as a Defensive Tactics Instructor. She was the first female Sergeant at the CHP Academy Weapons Training Unit.
